Last night, I went to the PG Museum of Natural History to photograph another show for the Times: a history of PG’s Feast of Lanterns. I brought my camera as well as my dad’s Nikon p&s which has a better flash than mine (the flash on my camera smokes when you shoot…not good…). The flash was so bright that I crafted an amazing diffuser out of wax paper to put over it, which came in handy. Lighting conditions were terrible, and I spent a great deal of time in Lightroom removing noise.
Today was the opening of our school stadium, and Nate and I went to photograph it (view his gallery here). After nearly a year of working on the stadium, it was finally finished last week and we got to go on it last week. It was a typical ceremony with a ribbon-cutting and speeches by those involved.
The past few days have been exceedingly hot for Pacific Grove—today got past 90° toward the middle of the day. On Sunday I went to Asilomar Beach and took photos for the Cedar Street Times of the huge crowds which had flocked to the beach in this strangely hot weather (link to the album below). In fact, the weather was so hot that today in track we went swimming in the ocean—the cold Pacific water felt extremely good comparatively. After doing sprints on Asilomar Beach, we swam quite a ways out in the water, then walked all the way back to the school up Sunset Avenue barefoot.
On Saturday I went to the PG Museum of Natural History to take photos of the annual wildflower show for the Cedar Street Times. Getting good quality photos proved difficult because of the low lighting combined with the fact that even ISO-400 on my camera is extremely noisy. However, after a run through Lighroom I managed to get some pretty decent ones, especially with closeups of the flowers.
For a while I have used Blogger for my blog and SimpleViewer for my photos. However, since Blogger lacks the ability to create multiple pages and Simpleviewer the ability to create multiple galleries without multiple installations, I decided to switch to WordPress.org. I will use this to post artistic photos as well as photos of events (often for the Cedar Street Times). I will eventually switch my Blogger blog over as well. Until then, it is still available at the old address here.
